Inner Wheel Club of Singapore West
September 2026
There was a mixture of emotions among the residents at AMK 191. For the past eight months, the Inner Wheel Club has been providing dinner every Monday - Chinese, Indian, or Western cuisine, sometimes in bento boxes and other times as a buffet. We had tried to give them a variety of meals to enjoy. Today, however, was our last dinner together.
There were happiness and gratitude as the residents thanked us for the support and friendship we had extended to them. Raymond dedicated the song “Beautiful Grassland at Night” to us, and we were deeply impressed by his powerful and beautiful voice. He shared that he had not sung for the past year but was inspired to sing for us. He said he was touched by the dedication and passion shown by our members.
The evening continued with music and laughter as the DJ played familiar oldies. Everyone enthusiastically joined in the chorus, and some even got up to dance the Twist to the music of Chubby Checker. Another resident surprised us with a beautiful painting as a gift of appreciation.
Yet, amidst the joy, there was also sadness. As we prepared to leave, we heard heartfelt words such as, “We’ll miss you,” and “We hope you can come back again.” Those simple words touched us deeply and reminded us that over the months, the weekly dinners had become much more than just providing a meal.
The New Hope staff also showed their appreciation by presenting each of us with a carrier bag and a cake - a thoughtful gesture that we will remember fondly.
As we said our goodbyes, we realised that this eight-month journey had been a meaningful one for everyone involved. While IWC came to serve and support the residents, we too received so much in return - their friendship, warmth, laughter, talents, and appreciation.
Although today marked the end of our Monday dinner programme at AMK 191, the memories and friendships we have built will remain in our hearts. We leave knowing that every meal shared, every conversation, every song, and every smile has helped create a sense of community and connection.
It was a farewell filled with mixed emotions - but most of all, with gratitude. We thank the residents and the New Hope staff for welcoming us so warmly and allowing us to be part of their lives.
Regards,
Natasha
