DISTRICT CHAIRMAN’S VISIT/CHRISTMAS PARTY
The club held its end of year Christmas party on December 7th in a splash of green and red costumes, good food and fellowship!
Twenty members together with Guest of Honour, District Chairman, Maria Hassanbhai, assembled to celebrate at the end of a busy year for the club.
Prior to the party commencing President Tan Wee Ling conducted a general meeting during which the District Chairman reminded members of the rules enshrined in each Club’s constitution.
A western buffet dinner ensued with one lucky member discovering a sliver coin hidden in a cake baked by a Greek member – a tradition she and her family follow every Christmas. A quiz game, continued to test member’s knowledge of Christmas traditions across the world, and a sing-along concluded the evening’s festivities to evergreen Christmas songs!
The mood of the party aptly reflected the true spirit of Christmas – the joy of coming together in the warm friendship at the heart of All Inner Wheel clubs.
FOOD DISTRIBUTION
Our club’s food distribution has continued throughout the past four months in void decks in Tampines, Bedok South, Ang Mo Kio and Beo Crescent. Our food supplier provides fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and eggs together with non-perishables like coffee, milo, biscuits, jams, tinned foods, noodles and UHT milk.
Both the residents, club members and their volunteers benefit from the camaraderie generated during this monthly sharing of food. It is a humbling reminder for our members of the good fortune they enjoy compared to the principally elderly population that they try to support.
December’s distributions have also seen parties adding a special festive cheer! In one party, organised by Riverside Community Service in Tampines, and co-sponsored by our club, residents gathered to enjoy the singing of carols and watch a short skit on the Christmas story. Lucky draws drew even more smiles from the gathered assembly!
ORANGE THE WORLD
The Inner Wheel Club of Singapore West joined in with the worldwide campaign, a 16-day period from 25 Nov till 10 Dec 2024, initiated by the United Nations to stop violence against women and girls.
Dressed in the symbolic rising sun orange, 6 members participated in a Zumba session we sponsored for a group of 50 elderly residents from rental flats in Toa Payoh and Ang Mo Kio, along with 10 volunteers at Marina Barrage on 4 December 2024.
This unified show of support, albeit from a small group, from a small island like Singapore, conveys a sincere hope for sustained action against violence to women and girls across the world.
