National Day Celebration at Kampong Glam

I felt a deep sense of pride as I stood on stage with the rest of the performers, singing our National Anthem. On 9 August, Singapore will celebrate its 61st National Day.

The residents of all ages from Kelantan Lane—including seniors and those in wheelchairs—came together with Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore, to mark this joyous occasion. The venue was a sea of red as most attendees proudly wore red T-shirts in celebration of our nation's birthday.

In her address, Ms Phua reflected on the many challenges Singapore has overcome, from the SARS outbreak to the COVID-19 pandemic. She reminded everyone to remain vigilant, caring, and compassionate as we face new challenges, including international geopolitical tensions and the rising cost of living. At the same time, she reassured residents that the Government is committed to doing its best to support and care for the people.

DJ Jeff from radio station 93.3 FM did a wonderful job of keeping the atmosphere lively and engaging. He encouraged enthusiastic audience participation throughout the evening. A talented singing duo added to the festive spirit by leading everyone in a four-language sing-along, while young dancers, dressed in colourful costumes representing Singapore's different ethnic communities, delighted the crowd with energetic performances that drew loud cheers and applause.

The evening concluded on a stirring note as the entire audience came together in heartfelt unity, singing beloved National Day songs with great enthusiasm. It was a memorable celebration that reflected Singapore's resilience, harmony, and the strong community spirit that continues to unite us.
