IWCS Members join Heritage Walk with SCWO: Celebrating Our Foremothers
Six members of IWCS joined the SCWO Heritage Walk on August 24th during the Singapore Night Festival. They set out through Bras Basah–Bugis to explore the lives and legacies of the women who shaped the social landscape in Singapore. The route threaded stories of reformers, educators, organisers, and quiet neighbourhood builders. These women pioneered opening classrooms, argued for fairer laws and knit communities together. The members ended the evening with warm fellowship at Crossings Café, a social enterprise that felt like a fitting close to a walk about service and impact.
PP Vijaya Rani reflects:
“Of all the figures we encountered, Shirin Fozdar stayed with me. Guided by her Bahá’í faith, she pressed for equality and education and helped establish the Singapore Council of Women. Hearing how she pushed against social norms was a good reminder that change often starts with one person”
