Inner Wheel Club of Singapore Celebrates with elders

- UMC’s Combined Birthday & Hari Raya Celebration

On 25th April, UMC hosted a combined celebration for both the birthdays of the month and festival of Hari Raya, with 6 -7 volunteers joining in at 9am. Despite ongoing renovations, the festival spirit was alive. The main activity and highlight was making banana fritters, where the elders carefully sliced bananas with precision and neatness, sprinkled sugar, rolled them in rice sheets, and fried them up. After this they played a game of pictorial Bingo, which was all fun and cheer as they kept placing their chips on the called images on their sheet and the ”full house” was achieved by a few delighted residents.

After cake cutting and "Happy Birthday" karaoke, two club volunteers sang a popular Tamil song, soon everyone joined in. As IWCS is made up of diverse nationalities, some of the elders were curious about the club, leading to inspiring conversations. They shared stories about their travels and past careers or their responsibilities for their loved ones, making the experience even more enriching.

After the meal, we shook hands, exchanged warm wishes, and left, feeling deeply connected to the residents and our purpose.
